THE CHALLENGE

Aerosol calibration

poses unique challenges.

Whether measuring mass, number, size or other metrics, successful

calibration of an aerosol Instrument Under Test (IUT) requires careful

attention to the selection of an appropriate challenge aerosol, aerosol

generation, conditioning, dilution and the choice of a reference instrument.

Aerosol generators themselves may exhibit drift — for example with ambient

conditions — so automated checks of calibration-system performance are

essential. Cambustion have applied 25 years of experience developing and

calibrating our own aerosol instruments to a range of reference-standard

calibration benches.

THE PARTICAL RANGE

Three core calibration parameters.

Standard benches address the metrics most commonly output by aerosol

measurement instruments — each calibrated against an appropriate traceable

reference.

mg/m³ · ng/m³

Mass concentration

A common output from gravimetric, Laser Induced Incandescence (LII) and Photo Acoustic Soot Sensor (PASS) techniques.

N/cc · N/ft³

Number concentration

Calibrated for Condensation Particle

Counters and Optical Particle Counters

against an electrometer or traceable CPC reference.

0.1 – >5 µm

Particle size

Spanning many orders of magnitude.

Calibration of a sizing instrument over a wide range is crucial for reliable results.

BUILT FOR THE FULL WORKFLOW

Generation, dilution, references and

software — engineered together.

01

Aerosol generation

Generators matched to the IUT and parameter — Polystyrene Latex Spheres as NIST-traceable standards, DOS and other oils, combustion soot and various salts.

02

Aerosol dilution

The AD60 diluter offers flexible dilution over three orders of magnitude, giving access to a wide concentration range from a stable generator.

03

Calibration references

Traceable standards such as PSL spheres, or reference instruments for metrics like number concentration — selected from deep experience.

04

User-friendly software

Multi-user levels, automated system checks and full data logging let you build arobust SOP and generate certificates for consistent IUT throughput.

STANDALONE / TURNKEY BENCH

AD60 AEROSOL DILUTER

Flexible dilution across three orders of magnitude.

Access a wide range of concentrations while the aerosol generator stays at stable conditions —

supporting IUT accuracy and linearity checks. The AD60 can even be feedback-controlled by

software to take calibration points at specific, repeatable concentrations.
